Can you still get your name legally changed after you claim bankruptcy?

I am in a lot of debt. A lot has to do with my abusive ex-husband forcing me to put stuff on credit cards. I want to change my first and middle name. Part is to try to restart life from an abusive past, get rid of a cyberstalker, and really i just hate my name. It takes a few days to several months for all this

I am in a lot of debt. A lot has to do with my abusive ex-husband forcing me to put stuff on credit cards. I want to change my first and middle name. Part is to try to restart life from an abusive past, get rid of a cyberstalker, and really i just hate my name. It takes a few days to several months for all this name change stuff to go through. Before that is finished i will have filed bankruptcy. Can my request get denied due to the bankruptcy?

Flower: I dont see what bankruptcy has to do with a name change. You have the same SSN so you cannot pile up more debts on a new name with the old SSN. It takes a while to discharge and regain credit.

Flower:
I would and yes you can but
I wouldn't spend money on name changing.
I'd just move over 300 miles away!
Ann:
no, but social security will need the legal forms to update your ss record, you will not get away from the credit reports or money owed
Kathy S:
Call your lawyer and ask him.
Ricki:
Filing for BK and changing your name are entirely different. Doing one has no effect on being able to do the other.
Barry A:
You will have to convince the judge that the name change is not to avoid creditors.
You may also have to wait until the bankruptcy is discharged.
