I'm still in Highschool and currently don't have a job, but my dad pays me for doing chores around the house. It isn't much maybe around $10 a week but I do try to save up. It has gotten to the point of where I can no longer even save my money because my dad keeps spending it. He recently spent almost all of my money in my account without tell me until I asked why I only had $3 in my leftover.

He says he wants me to save my money, but he keeps spending it. Do you think he only wants me to save the money so he can still have money to spend for himself? And what do I do to stop it?

Best Answer:

tro: this is admirable that he pays you for doing chores but my feeling on that is that he is paying you for the privilege of providing a place for you to live, food to eat, clothes to wear and medical care, not even mentioning the entertainment he provides etc
my feeling is that kids who get allowances etc are blackmailing their parents to live there
when he gives you money, keep it somewhere he can't find it, a bank account is an open invitation and obviously he needs your small amounts for necessities–he really can't afford to pay you for those chores

Other answer:

tro:
get a job and your own account that your father doesn't have signing rights on…
Donna:
hide your money…
Stan:
Until you are 18, there is nothing you can do. Once you reach 18, go to the bank with your birth certificate and take out what you feel is your portion. If you are still going to live there, your dad can make it hard for you
Ashley:
signing rights on…
Judy:
you can't
WRG:
Get a job and your own account that your father doesn't have signing rights on.
Marie:
Maybe try talking t him
Kathy S:
Find a really good place to hide your money, and don't tell ANYBODY where that place is.
DEBS:
Maybe he's broke and needs it? Why do you keep it in your account?
