So I'm 16 and living in GA. Let's say my current name is Robert. I have $3,000 Worth of savings bonds from my great aunt and my great grandmother, that all have Robert on them. If I get my name legally changed to Richard, Can I still cash those bonds when I turn 18, or do I lose all that money? And also, if

eyecue_two: So when you go to cash them, take your id with you and the documents that show you legally changed your name, there should not be an issue.

You can cash them in now but there would be a penalty if that involves an early withdrawal. You could have the savings bonds revised to reflect your new name, or (and probably the best thing) is to save pertinent paperwork for the name change, and cash in the bonds later.
