Hello, I m going to try and sum this up fast and easy. I have a child on the way currently due this month, we are both 19, I m currently working making 11 an hour but in about 3 month I ll be bumped to 15 and 1.25 every three months. That being said what s the best way to budget and what can I afford rent wise. The cost of living isn t high at all here, I was curious what could I afford personally? I told the mother of my child I m not going to let them move in until I m stable on my own. Money wise I make 1,450 a months. I do plan on start college this coming fall have the weekend shift, but that will be paid for through scholarships. My question is how can I budget for get ready to afford a house in the hourly wage boost?
Mike: Rent places usually look at your last month of income, (or proof of a salary if you are just starting a new job). With your income, Apartments are usually looking for income that is 3 x the monthly rent. (AKA, if you make $1450/month, you can afford an apartment rent of $483/month). That said, to move into a more expensive apartment, you may want to wait until your bump up to 15, so you can show a higher income. However, also keep in mind that a newborn will introduce new costs as well. Congrats and Good luck!
