Hello,
I am 14 years old, and my parents are urging me to put half of what I make in my part time job into a savings account and spend the other half but I am still in jr high and I am so far away from a car that it seems silly to save for something like that at such a young age! they are trying to tell me that a car takes a lot of time to save up for and I don't make that much, to begin with due to my young age so should i start to save up at this age or spend all I make up until I reach high school and roll half of what I make into savings or start saving now even though I have a lot of wants, and 15yrs of age wich is when ill be in high school wich means I most likely get more hours as my age increases.
Thanks,
Rocco.

jared: Your parents are trying to give you a good financial foundation. You need to learn the difference between wants and needs. Do what they say and save 1/2 of each check. You're lucky they let you keep any of it as spending money.

Yes. You don't want to be spending your money on stuff you don't need. That money could come in handy down the road if you're considering buying a car or for textbook money if you are considering going to college.

Good idea, and when you're old enough for a car, you'll be glad you did.
