I m 18 I m hoping to move in with my boyfriend or probably then husband in a few months. We re young, I get it. Please don t place any comments on how smart you think getting married young is. I will either be making $10 (29-30 hrs) or $15.20 (15-27 hrs) depending on how things go. Then respectively, if things go right he ll either be making $9 (33 hr week) then $1 raise after 6 months or $12 (30 hr week). I was thinking we d be able to afford somewhere from $500-700 maybe? Idk. I found income restricted apartments that look nice. Only bill would be rent & electricity. Is this doable? How much can we afford? We will make either $9 & $10 or $15 & $12. $150 for our phones, $120 insurance then we would need internet, groceries etc. Tips for moving in, expenses, and whether or not we could pull this off?
B: advice: save up for the rent deposit (usually one or two months), and save up for a cushion of a couple months expenses (joint account), then go for it. rent should not be more than 25% of your take home, otherwise you will run into problems. go for it.
Your $500-700 range is likely doable for two, as long as there isn't a baby, You'll need at least $3000-4000, preferbly more to move. To get into an apartment, you''ll need first and last month rent and a security deposit , so probably 3 months rent up front, also furniture and a zillion smaller things
Look for a house to share w/ others. Try Craigslist rooms/shares section.
Phone: Tracfone talk/text only is <$10 month prepaid. Android data add $15/month Phone $50.
Food: Lots of beans, rice, ramen
NO Netflix, Borrow DVDs from Library.
Most important expense: birth control.
did you even check to see if there is a long waiting list for the income restricted apartments..usually is..just took my neighbor 5 years to get in…another neighbor has been next on the list for 4 months, but hasn't gotten a place yet..
150 is too much for phones when you are making so little and want to live on your own…I pay $53 for an android plan…phone is 4 years old fully paid off..if I need a new phone, I am looking at one about $150 factory refurbished
First you need to learn the difference between necessities and wants. You need housing, utilities and food. You want expensive phone plans, internet and tv channels, and probably eating out and other entertainment. Make up a bare bones budget and see how it looks, based on lower incomes rather than higher. There are free budget templates online.
Advice? Have at LEAST $5,000 in the bank before you move, there are going to be way more expenses than you think.
You aren't typically able to rent a place when you first get a job.
You have to show that you have a stable income.
you won't make it, let's just face the facts and this relationship tho you are entirely enamored with it could sour in an instant, even the best of marriages have problems
